As a London Headshot Photographer I am privileged to work with all types of actors, from very experienced actors who have been in the industry for years to drama students who are just starting their careers. I've recently had the pleasure of shooting with a lot of students on their first set of actor headshots, here are a couple of them!
Ishbel Cumming is a student at Guildford School of Acting and had seen some of the acting headshots that I had taken for Jessica Simmons and booked a session for her first set of actor headshots!
It was great working with Ishbel as she was very engaged in collaborating together to get the shots that she required, we had a chat at the start of the session and talked through the type of castings that she wants to go for and the type of roles that she enjoys playing. We decided that a broad range of expressions, clothing options, hair styles and backdrops/lighting would give her everything that she needs at this point in her career and so we picked time first look and got to work!
Getting Professional Headshots taken can be a bit of a daunting prospect as you are probably meeting the Headshot photographer for the first time and for many it might be your first experience at a photo studio, however, I truly believe that the entire session is a collaboration between actor and photographer as this allows both parties to achieve the best results.
By working together you can pick the right clothing for the right lighting setup and backdrop that will really give the impression of a certain character look that you might want to shoot, by talking about potential roles/castings allows both the headshot photographer and actor to start shooting different looks and emotions that can really show off their acting range!
I believe in giving you a large variety of looks when you have a headshot session with me. My goal is to give you a selection of shots that show your range as an actor and most importantly get you seen! Take a look at some more of my work with lots of other actors!
Ariyan Kassam is a drama student studying at CalArts it LA and was in the UK for some of the summer and wanted to get acting headshots that would work for both US and UK markets.
For actors who want to work more in Film and TV, getting actor headshots that can be used in both markets is a real benefit, especially when it comes to pilot season in the US. Traditionally UK headshots are shoulders and head in the frame whereas in America more of your body is generally shown.
As Ariyan is studying acting in the US we shot his acting headshots with this in mind and made sure to shoot a wider frame for the image which can then also be cropped in to just head and shoulders for UK castings. A great Headshot tip is to chat with your headshot photographer and let them know where you are looking to use your headshots so that they can then make sure that you get the right composition for the correct marketplace and casting directors.
These are just 2 of the many students that I have worked with recently and both were awesome to collaborate with, by working closely with them we were able to maximise our time during the session and both went away with really strong acting headshots!
I'll make sure that you'll always be able to have a relaxed, fun time in your Headshot Session, you'll never be rushed and I take time to get to know you as an person and what you want from the session!

For me, the thought of posing for headshots was one of dread as I hate smiling for cameras but David made it such a relaxed, easy, friendly and enjoyable experience that resulted in some great shots. I highly recommend him!Victoria Whittaker
