If you are an actor who is just starting their career either at drama school or recently graduated or if you are an actor who has been working for a while, your actor headshot is one of the most important things to get right and professional acting headshots can make all the difference!
Steve Ryan came by the studio to get an update of his headshot portfolio, Steve was great to shoot with, he’s a very versatile actor who was able to get comfortable very quickly in the session and as a result we were able to create a few very different looks easily.
I always start my acting headshot sessions by sitting down and having a chat with each client before we start shooting as this allows us to get to know each other a bit and I can also learn about the actor as an individual and then start to taylor the session accordingly. As a headshot photographer its my job to guide a client through the whole process and to make sure that they get the best headshots possible for them and getting to know a client really does make all the difference.
A headshot tip that I mention all the time is talking to your professional headshot photographer about what you are looking to achieve form the session, the types of roles that you want to go for and any questions in general that might crop up throughout the session. By chatting and asking questions you will find it much easier to get comfortable and therefore easier to get the best acting headshots!
Its always nice to be able to have an idea of how the shoot will go before you book your session with a headshot photographer and so here is some information about what a headshot session with me is like!
Kerry Holmes is currently studying at Rose Bruford after stepping away from acting when she was younger, she made a career outside of acting and has decided to retrain alongside her career so that she can get back into acting. It was so much fun working with Kerry as she knew the types of roles that she wanted to go for but was also up for trying different looks that could work for alternative roles, by having a clear idea of what she wanted really allowed her to be confident in front of camera.
Getting professional headshots taken can be a nervous experience, especially when heading to your headshots session, but it doesn’t have to be! Headshot photographers work with all kinds of people, from very shy to extremely confident and its our job to help you through the session and give you the confidence that is needed for awesome headshots.
Not everyone knows what type of roles they are looking to audition for, this is especially true for drama students who are still learning, so by chatting with your photographer it allows you both to explore different options in terms of clothing, backdrops and lighting that will give you the right looks that can work for a variety of roles. I love working with actors and learning about their career and why they got into acting as not only does it allow me to get to know someone but it really helps define the look and style of the headshots that are right for them!
I'll make sure that you'll always be able to have a relaxed, fun time in your Headshot Session, you'll never be rushed and I take time to get to know you as an person and what you want from the session!
