As an actor your acting headshots are one of your most important tools for getting yourself seen by casting directors and agents, with a single shot of yourself, a casting director might decide whether to view your showreel or bring you in for an audition and so its really important to get headshots that are right for you!
As a professional headshot photographer I really enjoy working with each and every actor on headshots that can benefit their career and the path that they want to take going forward. At the start of every session I sit down with with them and talk about their acting history, their career and the type of castings and roles that they see themselves going for.
Next I’ll walk them through the session and what to they can expect and this is where I like to start tailoring the headshot session towards each actor, usually I will shoot a mixture of outdoor and in studio shots so that there is a nice mixture of lighting setups and backdrops, however if there is a specific look that an actor wants to achieve then the session can be adapted to accommodate this.
When Craig Talbot came to the studio for his professional headshot session he was looking to update his portfolio with a very clean and classic look, we shot exclusively in the studio as he wanted plain backdrops rather than anything else. We shot through out the session with a different mixture of lighting and clothing so that we could keep the same simplicity of the shots but change the mood of the images.
I believe in giving you a large variety of looks when you have a headshot session with me. My goal is to give you a selection of shots that show your range as an actor and most importantly get you seen! Take a look at some more of my work with lots of other actors!
Before I start taking any photos, I like to give my clients some headshot tips and advice in terms of posing and direction for the shoot ahead. Getting your headshots taken, especially if it is your first time getting acting headshots taken professionally, can be a daunting experience for some but it doesn’t have to be!
I really believe that the session works best when it is a collaboration between photographer and actor, not only does this mean that the photographer is informed about each actor and what they want to achieve but it allows the actor to also be involved in the whole process rather than just sitting and having their headshot taken. I always encourage actors to give feedback and ask questions as we shoot as it takes away some of the mystery of the shoot and allows them to fully relax into the shoot.
Professional Headshots for actors work well when it comes to the different looks that can be performed while taking actors headshots, I always feel its important to get a variety of looks that can help show off your range as an actor, and this is part of the way that I like to structure sessions around each actor. Depending on the type of roles that an actor would like to go for, we shoot a variety of looks and emotions so that they can really show a casting director different sides of their acting range.
My goal as a headshot photographer is to give each actor professional acting headshots that will help them stand out from the crowd and by doing these things for each actor and for every session, it allows them to really show their range and have headshots that make and impact and get them into the auction room!
I'll make sure that you'll always be able to have a relaxed, fun time in your Headshot Session, you'll never be rushed and I take time to get to know you as an person and what you want from the session!
