First set of Acting Headshots
Getting your first set of Actor Headshots can be a daunting prospect, from finding a headshot photographer to the shoot itself, it can all seem like a lot to think about but the experience should be a fun and rewarding one, lets go through the process!
Finding your Actor Headshot Photographer
When you start to look for a photographer the first thing to think about is your budget, there are many headshot photographers in the UK and they all have different headshot session packages and prices. Once you know what your budget limitations are, you can start to narrow down your list of potential photographers to work with.
The next thing to do when you have a list of potential photographers is to look at their portfolios and see if you love their style of work, this is your most important job before the session as your acting headshots will obviously have the same quality and feel to them, this way you can be confident that this style will work for you and your career.
Once you have your budget and have chosen your headshot photographer, either get in touch with them or book a session (if they have a booking system) and then look forward to the session itself!
Your Actor Headshot Session
As with all Headshot Photography, before the shoot, have a look through any information that your photographer has sent to you and if you have any questions at all simply get in touch with them and ask, its always better to be fully prepared for a session!
On the day make sure that you leave plenty of time to get to your session, public transport will inevitably get delayed, and bring all of your clothing changes / make-up / shaving gear with you. A headshot tip that I give all of my clients is to bring more clothing options than you think as we can then go through the different looks and pair them with different lighting setups a backdrops.
I truly believe that all headshot sessions should be a really fun experience as this is how you will get your best shots! I’m sure that I’m like most headshot photographers in the sense that I love to get to know my clients a bit more when they arrive or a cup of tea or coffee, its also at this point where I walk my clients through the shoot process and answer any initial questions they have.
As a London Headshot Photographer I see lots of different actors who all have varying degrees of experience with having their headshot taken so I know how important it is for every client to feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible when sitting in front of the camera. Most headshot photographers will give you direction as they work with you and tailor the session to meet your requirement for the roles that you, and if you have one, your agent want you to go for, this way you do not feel like you are on your own throughout the session and can ease into the shoot.
After your Headshot Session
Once the shoot is done, your photographer will deliver the images from the shoot to you and its now time to choose which images you would like edited into the final versions for you to use! Obviously depending on who you have shot with and the session you will have a set number of retouches to choose (most headshot photographers do also offer extra retouches at a small cost) and its important to not only take your time picking but also to get another set of eyes on your gallery, either your agent or someone’s opinion that you trust.
When your choices have been made and sent through, you will receive your final images that you can then use for your career and for getting in front of casting directors!
